ETSO (Annex Part 21)

Introduction

This course provides an overview of the European Technical Standard Order (ETSO) framework and its role in aviation safety and airworthiness. It explains how ETSO Authorisation enables the approval of aircraft parts and components independently of their installation, ensuring they meet defined technical standards. Participants will gain an understanding of the regulatory basis, including the relevant EASA requirements, CS-ETSO specifications, and the procedures outlined in Regulation (EU) No. 748/2012 – Subpart O. The course aims to build a solid foundation in ETSO principles and their practical application within the certification process.

Course Content

  1. Explain the process for preparing and applying for an ETSO Authorisation with EASA.
  2. Prepare an ETSO application in accordance with the applicable EASA requirements.
  3. Coordinate with EASA during the ETSO authorisation process.

  • Managers and technical staff of organisations applying for or holding an ETSO Authorisation (e.g. Design Engineers, Certification Engineers, Compliance Verification Engineers, Production Managers)
  • Staff of Competent Authorities responsible for oversight of production organisations (e.g. CAA Inspectors, Airworthiness Inspectors, Production Surveillance Inspectors)
  • Personnel from non-EASA Member State aviation authorities seeking to become familiar with EASA ETSO Authorisation processes

Pre-requisites

Essential:

  • Participants are kindly requested to bring a laptop to the course to access course material which will only be provided in electronic format.
  • No specific knowledge and/or experience pre-requisites are required.
  • A basic understanding of the subjects dealt with in the training course is an advantage but not necessary.
